Aso Shrine is one of Japan’s oldest and most significant Shinto shrines, located in Aso City. It is dedicated to Takeiwatatsu-no-Mikoto, a deity associated with agriculture, and is deeply connected to the Aso volcanic region. The shrine is a spiritual and cultural hub for the local community and historically important for prayers related to farming and protection from volcanic activity. Although damaged by the 2016 Kumamoto earthquakes, restoration efforts were made to preserve its historic significance.
