Komezuka

Komezuka is a small, perfectly conical volcanic hill located in the Aso region of Kumamoto Prefecture. Rising about 80 meters high, it was formed from past volcanic activity and is notable for its almost symmetrical shape, resembling a traditional rice mound, which is where its name, meaning “Rice Mound,” comes from. Komezuka’s smooth, grass-covered surface creates a striking visual contrast against the rugged landscape of the Aso Caldera. Although visitors cannot climb it, it is a popular spot for photography.
