Hello from Michi no Eki Aso!
Spring has come in Aso! Towns are colorful with many varieties of flowers! 🌷
Today I am going to talk about Shibazakura.
“Shiba”(芝)means grass and “Zakura” is the same as Sakura(cherry blossom).
In Japanese, the pronunciation of some words changes when they are combined with one or more words, therefore, the spelling changes to reflect that.
So Shibazakura gets its name because it looks like Sakura and covers the ground like a lawn.
The following two sites that you can access easily from Michi no Eki Aso.
