Hello from Michi no Eki Aso!
Japan is known for its rainy season called “Tsuyu”. It usually runs from early Summer, the beginning of June until the end of July. Although this year, it started on 15th May which is pretty early here in Aso.
The temperature is rising and the boiling summer season is coming to Japan after Tsuyu.
You may know Aso is cooler than Kumamoto city’s temperature in Summer, and there are many joys to be found in chilly Aso!
Today I am going to talk about a place you can cool down at, with clear spring water in Aso!
Ikeyama Suigen is one of the cold water springs located in Ubuyama, Aso.
Even though it was during the rainy season, it was a beautiful sunny day when I went there. I am a lucky person ♪
The amount of spring water flowing is about 30 tons a minute. The plentiful spring water helps local’s lives and produces delicious vegetables, rice as it is used for agriculture locally. Also birds, fish, and deers around there are living from this fresh clear water.
When you want to cool down and feel the fresh air to relax, you can sit here and put your feet into the cool spring water.
We have something similar in hot spring bathing called Ashiyu(足湯). It is the fact of dipping just your feet into a hot spring and it is very famous in Japan. But it can be done in cool spring water too and I had never seen it before.
The see-through water will cool your body from the hot Summer weather!
Enjoy summer in Aso!
