Hello everybody, how are you?The rainy season was supposed be over in the beginning of July, but somehow it has been raining for a week in Kyushu so far and it seems it will be like this for another week or so. We had enough rain in this month…
From Aug. 13th to 15th, it was Japanese holidays called Obon, when we welcome our ancestor’s spirit come home. We decorate a small Buddhism shrine in the house or the cemetery with flowers. Chrysanthemum is the most popular flower which is used for Buddhism ceremony.
Today, I would like to introduce a very rare wild flower called Higotai which is also chrysanthemum family.
Higotai had been seen in the grassland in Kyusyu more often before, but now it is classified in the red list by Ministry of Environment in Japan.
Higotai park at Ubuyama village is making effort to save more Higotai every year.
Now in August, Higotai flower is in their season, we got a report from them that Higotia has started blooming in the beginning of August.
I was going to see this wild looking flower with my family on my dayoff, but unfortunately the rain was a little too much to go over the mountain, so we decided not to go this time:(
I just would like to share this beautiful photo of Ubuyama Higotai park, which I got from our staff.
What you see in the back is Aso mountains.
Do you see a ladybug is playing on a higotai flower? It is very cute, isn’t it?

If you have a chance to visit Aso someday in summer after this covid-19’s mess calm down, please come to check up this cool wild flower.
