Today, I would like to introduce “Kumamon” at Michi no Eki ASo.
By the way, do you know what “Kumamon” is?
Kumamon is a mascot character of Kumamoto prefecture which was made to promote Kumamoto.
With his very simple and cute look and cheerful and funny character, he became so popular among Japanese people since he was born in 2013.
There is a cute Kumamon statue at the entrance of Michi no Eki Aso.
It must be the most popular photo spot at Michi no Eki Aso!
And also, we have a section to sell only Kumamon merchandise!
As Kumamoto prefecture doesn’t charge the fee for the copy right of Kumamon to make the promotion easier, there are many Kumamoto products with Kumamon printed.
Then you will see Kumamon everywhere at Michi no Eki Aso not only at the Kumamon section.
Let’s see…. How many Kumamon I can find here…

By the way, we don’t have wild black bear at Kyushu island.
We have only Kumamon here.
Kuma means bear in Japanese and Mon is Kumamoto dialect which means ” people from~”, so people from Aso is Asonmon,if you are from America,it would be America mon:D
