Hello everyone, I hope you are all doing great.
The weather in Aso has not been great recently so I have taken a small break from outdoor activities until the better weather arrives.
I just wanted to write a quick entry about a lovely cafe I just visited recently in Kario, Aso.
Rider’s cafe Torque, is situated in beautiful spacious surroundings with stunning views of both Shibazakura flowers (when in season) and Aso’s five peak mountain skyline.
The cafe interior is clean and modern with excellent natural lighting provided by large glass windows which give you a feeling of dining in the middle of nature.
The menu offers a wide variety of food and drink options with the inclusion of a few vegan friendly alternatives.
Personally being a meat lover, I opted to start with the smoked chicken sandwich served on European style crusty bread and a wild berry soda on the side.
The salad filling was fresh and crunchy and the smoked chicken had both a great smoky flavour and lovely moist texture. There was also a gorgeous marmalade dressing inside but I am not entirely sure what was used as the base, I will have to ask next time.
The wild berry soda was very refreshing and made for an excellent pairing.
Next I wanted to try their popular dry green curry dish that is Thai inspired.
Encircled by mouth watering fresh vegetables, the presentation reminded me a lot of my favourite dish, taco rice that I used to eat on a regularly basis whilst living in Okinawa.
The flavour was great and the portion size was just right.
Finally I was lucky enough to get to try their limited seasonal orange parfait which was ending that day, luckily I was just in time.
It is very difficult to put into words how good this parfait is but the fruits and orange sorbet were heavenly. Although everything I tasted was delicious and great value for money, the parfait really shone as honestly one of the best desserts I have had.
I would highly recommend this cafe to anyone looking for great quality food and value for money as well as having a stunning beautiful location. Recently Rider’s café have begun selling some of their products at Michi No Eki Aso, so I will be sure to try their great looking banana muffin soon.
Thank you all for reading and I hope you enjoy the café as much as I did.
Oliver
