Michi no Eki Aso Food Review 1

Hello, I‘m Totoro, an intern from Taiwan!

I want will introduce some food from Michi No Eki Aso that I was able to try during my 1 month internship : )

Akaushi sukiyaki deluxe bento box

Ingredients: Rice, beef, tofu, konjac, dried mushrooms, carrots, pickled mustard (takana), green onions, egg, spinach, radish, milk, purple sweet potato, matcha, sesame, mint leaves

A luxurious sukiyaki using only Akaushi beef sirloin paired with a bountiful selection of three-colored crispy floss and Oden beef tendon—an entire bento brimming with Akaushi beef.

The dessert is handmade matcha pudding topped with purple sweet potato puree, fresh cream, and homegrown mint leaves.

Of course, the highly acclaimed, bamboo shoots and Aso’s special pickled mustard (takana) are also included.

Akaushi bento box

A classic Aso Akaushi Beef Bowl generously covered with thin sliced Akaushi beef. Featuring premium tenderloin beef, sliced into thin pieces to highlight the tender and evenly distributed marbling.

Each slice of beef absorbs the rich sauce, delivering an elevated level of flavor. Hidden beneath the beef lies a bed of crisp onions and side dishes including Toyomaru’s original handmade bamboo shoots, premium mushrooms and Aso’s unique pickled mustard (takana).

If you have the chance in the future to visit, please try the classic Toyomaru Akaushi Beef bento, exclusive to Aso.

The deluxe bento features sukiyaki beef sirloin as the main dish, while the classic Akaushi bento highlights sukiyaki beef tenderloin.

Although thin slices of beef often bring the concern of being dry and tough, the moist texture upon tasting immediately dispels such worries. For Taiwanese, the flavor might be slightly on the salty side, so it’s recommended to pair it with a drink.

The matcha pudding that comes with the deluxe bento is particularly impressive. The rich matcha aroma melts in the mouth, providing a refreshing contrast to the heavy savory beef flavors.

The Aso milk, also available at Michi no Eki Aso, is the perfect accompaniment to the bento.

Unlike the overly rich milk commonly found in the market that leaves a lingering dairy aftertaste, this milk is smooth, with a light finish, bringing a touch of freshness to hot summer days.

Thank you very much for reading and I hope to be again soon with another food review.
